Content: The Coupe des Alpes, the Liège-Rome-Liège Marathon, the East African Safari, and the Tour de France Automobile are all events that have disappeared. Rallies seem to have always been a part of our lives. Yet, their history is still relatively young, since, with a few exceptions, it only began in 1946. In the early days of rallying, selection, without any real competition, was based on overcoming the numerous natural obstacles along the route. The concepts of average speed and pure speed only came much later. Then came pace notes, corner by corner, reconnaissance, service, special homologations, the overall classification, and finally, special stages, which gradually transformed the discipline. As a result, rallying is not an exact science; it is characterized by constant twists and turns, some dramatic, others downright comical. Between 1932 and 1968, the seasons were presented event by event. Each year´s edition includes three sidebars: the best rally driver of the year, the rally car of the year, and a final section dedicated to a specific event. This book aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate overview of the sport, emphasizing the "atmosphere" of the photographs to capture the passion that drives drivers and spectators alike to brave often challenging weather conditions.
